Cajun Fried Catfish

If you are in the mood for some comfort food, then you will love this Spicy Rooster version of Fried Catfish

At Spicy Rooster we like to keep our food fresh and simple and this Cajun Fried Catfish is just that! Oh, yah and it's delicious too!

All you will need are the following:

  • Approx. 8 cups Peanut Oil or Canola oil
  • 4 Fresh Catfish fillets
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Spicy Rooster Cajun Blend
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 2 Cups buttermilk
  • 2 Large eggs

In a dutch oven bring oil to 350°. (If you prefer use a cast iron skillet. This method will require less oil)

Lightly season catfish with Spicy Rooster Cajun blend (approx. 1 tsp.)

Add remaining Cajun blend to Cornmeal and mix in 1 cup of flour.

Prepare egg wash by whisking together buttermilk and eggs.

Dredge catfish in flour, then egg wash, and then cornmeal.

Once fish are coated and oil is hot, gently place fish in oil and cook for approximately 5-7 minutes. Turn once during cooking for even browning.

Add some Cajun Blend to some homemade oven baked potato wedges or fries and your Southern Fish fry is almost complete and ready to eat, you can't forget the fresh lemon!

(Add some Spicy Rooster Cajun blend to tartar sauce and you have a nice cajun dip for your fish.)
